More about the indigo plant: <Indigo has been used for thousands of years to dye textiles and was historically valued as a traded commodity, earning the nickname "blue gold". The process to extract the dye from the leaves is complex, involving fermentation and oxidation. Humans have used indigo for thousands of years, with some of the oldest indigo-dyed textiles dating back 6,000 years in Peru.Beyond just clothing, indigo has been used as a pigment in art and was prized in cultures like Japan for its antibacterial and flame-retardant properties. >
